Emergency board-up secures a fire-damaged building immediately after the loss: plywood over broken windows and doors, heavy tarps over roof openings, and temporary fencing where needed. Your insurance policy requires you to protect the property from further damage — board-up satisfies that duty, prevents weather and intrusion losses, and is typically reimbursable under your fire claim.

After the fire trucks leave, your home stands open — windows broken by heat or ventilation, doors forced, sections of roof cut or burned through. Every hour it stays open, three risks compound: Northwest rain pouring into an already-damaged structure, theft and vandalism (fire-damaged homes are targets), and liability if someone enters and gets hurt.

There's an insurance dimension too. Standard policies impose a duty to mitigate — to take reasonable steps preventing further damage after a loss. Rain damage through an opening you left uncovered for two weeks is a fight you don't want to have with an adjuster. Prompt, documented board-up closes that door completely.

Our crews board windows and doors with fitted plywood, tarp roof openings against weather, secure or fence hazardous areas, and photograph everything for your claim file. Board-up is billed to the claim in nearly all insured losses, and it flows directly into our assessment and restoration process — one call starts the whole recovery.

Emergency Board-Up & Roof Tarping — Frequently Asked Questions

How fast can you board up my property?

Board-up requests through our contact form or site chat are treated as emergencies — typically same-day within our Salem–Longview corridor. The form takes two minutes; a project manager responds immediately during business hours and first thing after-hours.

Does insurance pay for board-up?

Yes, in nearly all insured fire losses — securing the property is a required, covered mitigation expense. We document the work and bill it into the claim.

Is board-up required by my insurance policy?

Effectively, yes. Policies require you to protect the property from further damage after a loss. Failing to secure the structure can give the insurer grounds to deny subsequent damage — like rain intrusion — that reasonable board-up would have prevented.

What about my roof — the fire department cut a hole in it?

Vertical ventilation holes are standard firefighting practice and we tarp them the same day with heavy-duty, anchored tarps that survive Northwest wind and rain until permanent roof repairs are permitted and completed.

Can I enter my home after it's boarded up?

If the structure has been cleared for entry, yes — we install lockable access so you can retrieve essentials while keeping the property secure. If it hasn't been cleared, we'll retrieve critical items (medications, documents) during our assessment where safe.

Do you board up commercial buildings too?

Yes — storefronts, offices, and multifamily buildings, including temporary fencing and site security coordination for larger losses.
